Warnings:
- Don’t swim alone.
- Make sure there is a lifeguard.
- Don’t learn swimming in river or lake.
- Use proper safety gear.
- Stay within a depth where you can stand.
- Avoid swimming during storm.
Swimming Step 1: Try floating on your back.
- Stay in a shallow depth and try floating on your back.
- Take a deep breath and then float; if your lungs are full of air, your body will float for sure.
- There will be water around your ears; your nose and mouth will be in the air.
- For stability, put out your arms so that your body is in a “T” shape.
Swimming Step 2: Learn breathing technique
- Take a deep breath and put your face underwater.
- Slowly exhale out your nose until you’re out of breath, then come back up. Bubbles should come out.
Swimming Step 3: Practice kicking your legs.
- Float on your back, or hold on to the side of the pool, and practice kicking.
- See how far each kick can propel you, practice it using a board or inflatable swimming ring.
Swimming Step 4: Learn how not to drown.
Swimming Step 5: Learn how to swim and advance forward.
